Professor Akin-Tunde A. Odukogbe

Professor Akin-Tunde A. Odukogbe is of the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria and an Honorary Consultant to the University College Hospital, Ibadan. He had his undergraduate university education from September 1978 to June 1983 in the University of Ibadan, and master degree from January to December 2006 in the University of Liverpool, England. His post qualification professional training started at the Ogun State University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, Nigeria from April 1989 to January 1991, then to University College Hospital, Ibadan from February 1991 to January 1997, and the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield, England from 1 August to 30 September 2005 respectively. He is a fellow of the Faculty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of both the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and the West African College of Surgeons, and the current Head of Department, Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

He is a passionate teacher who has been teaching and examining medical students since 1989 and later resident doctors, postgraduate academic and perioperative and other nursing students. He has supervised numerous dissertations and theses of resident doctors and postgraduate master and PhD students of the Universities of Liverpool and Ibadan and the Pan African University Life and Earth Sciences Institute. He has held many administrative posts in the College of Medicine, Ibadan and the University College Hospital. He is a member of many socio-philanthropic organizations and has several awards from many of them.

Prof. Odukogbe is a dedicated obstetrician / gynaecologist with special interests in gynaecological oncology and maternal – fetal medicine. He has authored / co – authored 86 peer reviewed journal articles, two dissertations, chapters in four books and two training / practice manuals. His most outstanding award is being the first African to receive the Helene Harris Memorial Trust’s travelling fellowship (observer status) at the Trust’s 10th biennial international conference in USA in 2005 sequel to his work on ovarian cancer.

He has attended conferences and participated in students’ assessment and researches nationally and in the four continents of Europe, North America, Asia and other parts of Africa. Born 28th of February 1959, he is married to Tinuola Snr, with a daughter and a son, and are grandparents.
